If you go into a pub here, you order beer* /lager/whatever by the pint (a proper pint, not the misera ble little American one) or by the glass.

Here we have a pint and a glass. Yes, they’re both glass. Don’t think about it too much.

Kinja'd!!!

*Nobody actually says “beer”. You buy by brand.

In the more traditional “pubs” here you really just say big beer/small beer and you get whatever is the local favourite. Only in the few more modern places they offer several (and actually nice) beers so you can order by brand.

Around here it used to be that a bar would only have 3 or maybe 4 beers on tap and you would either order a glass or a pitcher . Now the minimum beers on tap seems like it’s 8 and you order by glass size, 16oz or 24oz for example. I have to say that the beer is orders of magnitude better, though.

S ame here. Choice used to be Guinness, Beamish, Smithwicks or Murphys depending on where you were. Now there are brands you never heard of on tap and proba bly at least one cider as well and bottles and cans from every corner of the world (not the Middle East so much!).

The American “pint” is a travesty. I’ve also noticed many bars and restaurants use the standard American “pint” glass but it has a very thick bottom. I’m sure that half ounce short pour  adds up nicely over time.

I thought only Americans were obsessed about size. American microbrews are stronger and more flavorful anyway, and the big brands are on the decline. I’d rather have 14oz o f a good local stout than 20oz of Guinness.

Here if you say ‘a pint of beer/lager/stout' , you will get asked which and they’ll tell you what they have.

We do pints and half pints but if it’s a beer, etc... with a high alcohol level, if you ask for a pint they will say they don't sell it as a pint, but by the glass and will tell you the glass size and why.

Most bars in my area have beer, style, price and size.

Draft domestic lager typically 16oz, many places have it that you can buy 20 or 24 oz.

craft or impo rted brews are a mixed bag due to the large price variation among brands/beers , often served largest in 16oz form or smaller due to higher alcohol content. with a lot of double IPAs being 7-10%

Up until 15 years ago, bars would typically have only a handful of beers (coors, bud, miller) on tap and then a couple of imports, or craft in bottles.
